Tour Introduction

Step into the place of merchants and illustrious naval history led through the intriguing past of this marvelous fortified city. As we know it today, the Old Town of Kotor was built between the 12th and 14th centuries, but its hidden and well-documented history goes much further back. On this short-distanced but elaborate tour, our carefully selected guide offers their narration through a couple of leisurely walks through numerous historical heritage monuments and outstanding medieval architecture.

Deeply inside the colloquially called Boka Bay, a medieval port town stands – a network of lively cobbled alleys and hidden squares walled by stout ramparts. We have the five most essential town squares to explore inside the ramparts, visit a few nobility palaces, learning the town`s curiosities from the documented history along the way. The intriguing religious diversity of this city is mirrored in many religious buildings scattered throughout the town, featuring both Roman Catholic and Orthodox aspects of Christianity. Entry permitted, we shall take a peek inside the Cathedral of St Typhoon and two orthodox churches – St. Luca and St. Nicola, situated on St. Luca’s church square, previously called Piazza Greca. We close the tour in the shade of the oldest tree in town, absorbing the medieval atmosphere while relaxing in one of many cafe terraces. After the break and time permitting, we suggest climbing up to the fort of San Giovanni for a spectacular view and great photos!
