Tour Introduction

This tour is an unadulterated celebration of life. We celebrate one of the shiniest pearls in the Balkan mountain necklace, Durmitor – a biosphere reserve bursting with sounds, shapes and colours dancing to the tune of light. This mini photo expedition is an experience well balanced between the best scene, spontaneous story and organic flavour. Customisable and led by the expert, it provides a contrasty adventure by exploring the untouched wilderness and “tamed” nature with massive infrastructural interventions. Apart from thrilling landscapes, savouring local food and authentic encounters make this private excursion an immersive experience of the local culture. The road is narrow and winding but with almost no traffic, giving the “another planet” feel to this trip to the remote.

One of the shiniest pearls in the Balkan mountain necklace is Durmitor – a biosphere reserve bursting with sounds, shapes and colours dancing to the tune of light. A proper photo exploration must begin in time, earlier in the morning, with the sun behind your back, casting its first rays on the hill tips before you. Your expert guide and driver, a professional photographer and a chef himself shall be waiting for you, ready and fully equipped, at the previously agreed-upon location. His local knowledge shall be of great help, especially in unpredictable weather/light conditions, which are here characteristic for Spring and Fall. Having shot the first batch, you enjoy a picnic break with local produce pre-prepared by your guide. Durmitor mountain is full of scattered so-called Katuns – (loc. katuni, i.e. temporary pastoral hamlets), so the scenery or even encounter with shepherds with flocks is not a rarity, nor are various birds of prey or rare butterflies participating in their act of life on this stage. The complexity and diversity of flora and fauna here attract the curious to at least peek into this realm, supplementing their knowledge, being one with nature. Once we reach Piva river canyon, photography topics change, with the light being just perfect for catching the contrasts of the surprising post-modern mammut infrastructure in the area. Once back in the ring, an authentic lunch with a possible cooking class awaits in one of the katuns, just above the Pivsko Lake. With light being on top of the sky, we can indulge our curiosity or hedonism, relaxing and absorbing the quiet, or having a chat with a local shepherd. Once the thirst for fresh pictures appears again and the light slowly starts to fall behind our back, we shall start our way back to Žabljak, stopping for the best scenery along the way. This tour is an unadulterated celebration of life.
