This intriguing town of an exceptional history is one of the oldest continuously inhabited localities in the Croatian territory. Its outstandingly favourable position has always attracted the attention of the neighbouring countries, and for centuries has been causing battles for domination over the city. As a result of such a turbulent history which has left many scars on its architecture, today the town abounds in an array of cultural treasures.

By walking the main city street – Kalelarga (Via Magna, Strada Grande, Ruga Magistra, Calle Larga – Wide Street) and advancing through the charming town core, every now and then we will make a slight turn to the left or right, each time stepping into a time machine.

A composite of Zadar’s ancient monuments and early-medieval and renaissance architecture will slowly lead us to the town`s main square, where the most important landmarks of Zadar are, such as the Byzantine Church of St. Donatus, Cathedral of St. Anastasia, and the ancient Roman square – Forum.

Proceeding to the nearby seaside promenade, we shall visit two rather unusual attractions, both products of modern architecture: the world`s unique Sea Organ, a wave-operated instrument that produces gorgeous melodies, and the Greeting to the Sun – a solar installation which creates a colourful series of light effects at sunset in accordance with the rhythm of the waves. In addition, the spot occupied by these two installations boasts a captivating view of the most amazing sunset, which makes the late-afternoon hours the best time to start this tour.
