Tour Introduction
The island of Mljet is famous for being the greenest island in the entire Adriatic. The ancient name for the island, Melitta, comes from the Greek melitte nesos, meaning honey isle. To this day the name has survived with complete merit. Some even say that, while describing the enchanted island of Ogygia where Odysseus had reportedly shipwrecked and was held by the nymph Calypso, Homer must have had the Island of Mljet in mind. This cannot be proven, of course, but some of the poet’s descriptions undoubtedly fit this island.
Mljet is at a 45-minute speedboat distance from Dubrovnik toward the island of Korčula, passing by the Elaphite Islands. Its National Park is situated in the western part, occupying one third of the island. Its greatest peculiarity are the two salt-water lakes and an island on the island with a 12th century Benedictine Monastery on it. During this private tour, we will take you to the Mljet National Park, where you can walk around or rent a bicycle to explore the lakes. Our boats are not allowed to enter the lake area, but you can rent the ones owned by the locals in order to visit the small island with its previously mentioned monastery.
On the way back, you can visit various small villages and other lovely spots in order to enjoy the peace and tranquillity.
Later on, you can visit the Pelješac peninsula or some other spots on the Elaphite Islands, or any other place you would like to see while cruising around.
Your skipper will find the best spots and create an itinerary which will cater to your wishes.
