A trip from Split to Dubrovnik truly doesn't need to be a cliché, such as the widely popular island hopping tour or a scenic drive along the motorway. Unlike the more standard visits to Croatia's coastal pearls of Split and Dubrovnik, this tour offers you an insight into the significance that the administratively and politically independend territorial units of Poljička Knežija (Village Principality) and Dubrovačka Republika (Dubrovnik Republic) had for the entire area. The Village Principality, which had its own legal system, continuously existed for 700 years, which is longer even than Dubrovnik Republic, making it a European phenomenon. In this tour we will pay a visit to the landmarks that testify to a rich life throughout the history of both of these republics and become acquainted with the culture, landscapes and daily life of the indigenous population.

After breakfast, it is time for a more serious tour of Split: we will blend in with the locals and visit the old neighbourhoods of Lučac and Manuš, walking down to the famous farmers’ market, Pazar, where we will buy groceries for our lunch. From there we will walk along the ancient Decumanus street all the way to the fish market (Peškarija) and Prokurative Square. Together we shall prepare a traditional Split-style lunch, and after having surrendered to gastronomic pleasures, we shall relax and enjoy our leisure time.

A morning ferry ride to the town of Supetar on the island of Brač and a short drive to the starting point of your island hiking tour marks the beginning of this day. An easy 30-minute ascent will take you to Blaca Hermitage, a place established by Glagolitic monks from the Village Principality. Continue your ascent towards two abandoned shepherds’ villages, where you will enjoy a game of balote (bocce ball) and a wholesome peka lunch at a family household. Afterwards, enjoy the stunning views of the town of Bol and the famous Golden Horn beach from Vidova Gora Hill. Embark the ferry once again for a short ride back to Split, where you can explore the city’s rich and lively bar scene or fine dining opportunities.

Leaving Split, we shall depart to Dubrovnik, stopping at various points of interest along the way. This day offers a somewhat unusual mixture of oriental and Mediterranean culture, starting with a visit to the controversial town of Mostar and the famous salt pans of Ston. Needless to say, we shall not skip exploring the local cuisine and scratching beneath the “touristic” surface of the local community. Having arrived to Dubrovnik and checked-in to our accommodation, we shall rest a bit from the day`s voyage and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of the Adriatic crown jewel.
